Immigration court

A court date is not the end of the story

If you've received a Notice to Appear, or you have a hearing in immigration court, you can be represented by a lawyer, though the government won't pay for one. Go to every hearing: missing one can mean an order of removal without you there.

We'll read your notice, look at your history and tell you which defenses may fit: asylum, cancellation of removal, a green card through a relative, or more time to prepare. We appear with clients at the immigration court in Newark and take cases for people held in Elizabeth.

Before your next court date

  1. 01

Step 1: Find your hearing date

It's on your notice, or you can look it up with your A-number, the nine digits that start with A.

  2. 02

    Step 2: Gather your papers

The notice, any earlier applications, police or court records, and proof of how long you've lived here.

  3. 03

    Step 3: Update your address

If you've moved, the court must have your new address, or you may miss the letters about your case.

  4. 04

    Step 4: Call us

Bring everything to your screening. If your hearing is within 30 days, tell us on the phone.
